12 August 2008: On the occasion of International Youth Day,
celebrated on 12 August, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Somalia Deputy
Representative, Hannan Sulieman, underscored the role young people can play in
helping to tackle climate change.
Noting that the country faces many
climate-related threats, in addition to the lack of peace and security, she
underscored the need for young people to engage in addressing the deterioration
of the environment in order to ensure a better future for Somalia. UNICEF
stresses the special interest of the youth in protecting the environment they
will inherit, in particular in the areas of climate change preparedness and
resilience. [UNICEF
