WSSCC - SCANovember 2014: The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) and Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA), a hygiene and forest products company, have announced a partnership to raise awareness on menstruation issues faced by women and girls.

The partnership aims to address the challenge faced by millions of women and girls who lack access to sanitary products, which are either unaffordable or unavailable in many developing countries. This results in women and girls missing educational opportunities and reduces productivity.

The WSSCC highlighted that every day 800 million women and girls are menstruating, outlining studies showing that only 12% of women in India use sanitary pads and 50% of school girls in Ethiopia miss one to four days of school per month due to their periods. [WSSCC Press Release]
