World We Want Highlights ‘People’s Voices’ on Disability

The World We Want Policy and Strategy Group held a second event in the People's Voices Series, with an interactive panel discussion on people with disabilities and the post-2015 development agenda.

The People's Voices Series brings together panelists to discuss development issues in the context of marginalized and impoverished peoples, and how they can be better incorporated into the post-2015 development agenda-setting process.

The World We Want19 August 2013: The World We Want Policy and Strategy Group held a second event in the People’s Voices Series, with an interactive panel discussion on people with disabilities and the post-2015 development agenda. The People’s Voices Series brings together panelists to discuss development issues in the context of marginalized and impoverished peoples, and how they can be better incorporated into the post-2015 development agenda-setting process.

Held on 19 August 2013, in New York, US, the event also was webcast to participants around the world. The discussion included a review of the post-2015 processes’ focus on disabilities, including in the report of the High-level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the discussion of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The specific experiences of disabled children and youth were highlighted, and panelist encouraged these issues to be mainstreamed in UN activities. Themes of empowerment, advocacy, and inclusion of peoples with disabilities were stressed.

The first event in the People’s Voices Series took place on 18 July 2013 to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day, with a discussion on ending global poverty and opportunities for engagement with the World We Want Platform. [People’s Voices Series] [Webcast]
