story highlights

The theme for World Migratory Bird Day, organized by the CMS and AEWA Secretariats, among other partners, will celebrate "Migratory Birds and People" and underscore the cultural, social, historic, economic and spiritual connections shared by migratory peoples and birds.

23 January 2012: The World Migratory Bird Day Team at the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) announced that the 2012 Day, to be celebrated on 12-13 May, will have the theme “Migratory Birds and People – together through time.”

World Migratory Bird Day was initiated in 2006 to raise awareness of the importance of protecting migratory birds and their habitats. Migratory birds are threatened by land use change, climate change, hunting and pollution.

This year’s theme will underscore the relationship between birds and people, including their cultural, social, historic, economic and spiritual connections. The Day is organized by the Secretariats of CMS and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA), among other partners. [CMS News]
