The World Forestry Congress 2009
February 2009: The 13th World Forestry Congress will address the theme “Forests in Development – A Vital Balance.” Organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and institutions from various sectors of Argentina, the Congress provides an opportunity to present an overview of the state of forests and forestry around the world, to discern trends, adapt policies and raise awareness among policy makers, the public and other stakeholders. The 13th Congress will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 18-25 October 2009, and presentations will address themes including: forests and biodiversity; development opportunities; forests in the service of people, including forests and climate change; organizing forest development; and people and forests in harmony.

The Congress, held every six years in different host countries, is expected to attract about 6,000 participants from governments, universities, civil society and the private sector, and serves as a forum to exchange views and experiences and to formulate recommendations to be implemented at the national, regional and global levels.
