This synthesis document (HLC/08/5), drafted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), was prepared for the High-level Conference on World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy, which will take place in Rome, Italy, from 3-5 June 2008. It reviews the current state of the knowledge regarding major challenges facing the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors, including the: vulnerabilities in the food system; impacts on food supply and demand; commodity prices; nutrition and food safety; and stability of the food supply system. The Document also suggests ways to ensure food security in the immediate and longer terms.
