World Food Prize, Rockefeller Foundation Announce Agriculture Award

According to the World Food Prize, the Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by the Rockefeller Foundation, aims to recognize an individual demonstrating the dedication, perseverance, innovation shown by Norman E.

Borlaug during his work with farmers in Mexico in the 1940's and 1950's.

Nominations should be submitted by 30 June 2012.

3 February 2012: The World Food Prize Foundation is calling for nominations for a new international agriculture award intended to honor young field workers, the Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application. The inaugural US$10,000 annual award, endowed by the Rockefeller Foundation, will be presented in October 2012.

The award aims to recognize an individual demonstrating the dedication, perseverance and innovation shown by Norman E. Borlaug during his work with farmers in Mexico in the 1940’s and 1950’s. This work, for which Borlung was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, assisted in feeding millions of people.

Eligible candidates include young extension workers, research scientists, or development professionals working in the field, or at the production or processing level with farmers, animal herders, fishers or others in rural communities. Candidates will be evaluated by a jury of international experts based on their intellectual courage, innovation and determination. Nominations should be submitted by 30 June 2012.
