15 August 2012: The World Bank is lending its support and resources to the Caracoles Wind Project as part of the larger initiative to prioritize renewable energy systems in Uruguay.

The Caracoles Wind Project, registered as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project, will generate around 180,000 carbon credits over the next seven years, which will then be purchased by the World Bank’s Spanish Carbon Fund. The project promotes the use of efficient and sustainable energy technology at the Caracoles Wind Farm, a 10 MW wind farm in eastern Uruguay, expected to generate approximately 39,000 MWh of energy annually, partly as a result of investments in 3-blade VESTAS technology.
