World Bank Supports Central America in Disaster Risk Prevention and Management

Under two agreements between the World Bank and the Center for Coordination and Prevention of Natural Disasters in Central America (CEPREDENAC), the Center will update the regional risk management plan, improve regional mechanisms for the coordination of humanitarian aid in disasters, and build capacity to identify, design and implement risk reduction activities, as well as climate change adaptation measures.

World Bank15 December 2011: The World Bank and the Center for Coordination and Prevention of Natural Disasters in Central America (CEPREDENAC) have signed two cooperation agreements for more than US$1 million to support the implementation of the Central American Policy for Integral Disaster Risk Management (PCGIR).

The first agreement will support the coordination capacity of CEPREDENAC to update the regional risk management plan for Central America and improve regional mechanisms for the coordination of humanitarian aid in case of disasters. The second agreement will support capacity development within CEPREDENAC and in governments of the region with the aim to identify, design and implement disaster risk reduction activities, as well as measures to adapt to climate change.
