29 June 2010: The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a pilot project in the Philippines, called the Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP), which is designed to enable targeted rural communities to cope with the impact of climate change. A US$4.974 million grant for the project will come from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Trust Fund being implemented by the World Bank. In addition, the project will be supported with US$40.45 million co-financing from the Participatory Irrigation Development Project (PIDP) and US$10 million from the Environment and Natural Resources Management Project (ENRMP), two on-going government projects that are also financed by the World Bank.
The project will seek to: strengthen the enabling environment for climate change adaptation; demonstrate climate change adaptation strategies in the agriculture and natural resources sectors; and enhance the provision of scientific information for climate risk management.
