24 February 2011: The World Bank has released a report titled “Transition to a Low-Emissions Economy in Poland,” which finds that Poland’s transition to a low-emissions economy by 2030 is feasible, as it underwent transition to a market economy in the early 1990s.
The report is part of the World Bank’s series of low-carbon growth studies. It notes that Poland’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are not large by global standards and its per capita emissions now stand similar to the EU average. However, it underlines that given its lower income levels, Poland’s economy remains among the least emissions-efficient in the EU.
