World Bank Institute Trains South-East European Professionals in Energy Efficiency
story highlights

The training courses offer professionals the opportunity to learn about energy efficiency processes in the building and construction sector, including on energy efficiency requirements for countries acceding to the European Union.

28 February 2012: The World Bank Institute (WBI) has organized courses aimed to educate architects, constructors and energy auditors on improving energy efficiency in South-East Europe to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

With energy consumption in countries in South-East Europe rapidly increasing, the WBI courses represent an effort to halt this trend. A recent workshop in Vienna, attended by professionals from Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia, focused on energy diagnostics, financing and organizing energy efficient programs, as well as energy efficiency requirements that South-East European countries need to comply with as part of the European Union accession process. By guiding program participants in improving energy efficiency, the WBI aims to reduce energy costs and create new jobs in the technology sector. Furthermore, through implementing sustainable energy programs, these countries are expected to play an important role in mitigating the effects of climate change. [WBI News]
