The Mitigation Action Implementation Network (MAIN) for Latin America seeks to promote the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices, as well as to provide a resource for the expert teams involved in low-carbon development planning or in designing scaled-up climate mitigation actions in their countries.
March 2011: The World Bank Institute (WBI), the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) and the Costa Rica-based INCAE Business School, supported by the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the German Ministry of the Environment, have launched the Mitigation Action Implementation Network (MAIN) for Latin America.
MAIN initially brings together national expert teams comprising policy makers, UNFCCC negotiators and development practitioners from six countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and Peru. Other countries may join MAIN later on.
MAIN aims to promote the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices. It will also provide a resource for the expert teams involved in low-carbon development planning or in designing scaled-up climate mitigation actions in their countries, so that they can better understand the concepts, opportunities and challenges related to Low-Emission Development (LED) strategies, National Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and related innovative climate finance.
