A workshop on managing perfluorinated chemicals (PFCS) and transitioning to safer alternatives was organized by UNEP and the US Environmental Protection Agency to provide countries with the opportunity to review PFC developments since the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Workshop on Perfluorocarboxylic Acids (PFCAs) and Precursors in 2006, especially as they relate to risk reduction programs.

Delegates exchanged views on the next steps regarding PFCs. The results of the meeting will be presented at a side event during the second International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM-2) in May 2009 (IISD RS sources).
