A workshop taking stock of Africa’s progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) gathered Senior African government planners, UN Development Programme (UNDP) policy advisers, and representatives of donor and multi-lateral agencies in Lome, Togo, from 11-13 April 2007.

The workshop focused on pinpointing barriers and identifying what African countries can do to catch up with other regions to reach the MDGs. To date, 40 of the 45 countries covered by UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa have embarked on MDG-based planning, and about 20 of these countries, including Togo, have established credible MDG-based plans. The Lome workshop is the first of two workshops organized by UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa in 2007.
