Nargis approaches Myanmar on 1 May 2008 (Image: NASA) December 2008: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Government of Oman are co-sponsoring the International Conference on Indian Ocean Tropical Cyclones and Climate Change, which will take place from 8-11 March 2009, at the Sultan Qaboos University, Oman.

The Conference will bring together leading experts, from both
research and operational meteorological environments. The event aims to
be a first step towards an ongoing international focus on the potential
impact of climate change on the Indian Ocean, and its proceedings will
be published as a WMO technical document. Members of the World Weather
Research Programme Expert Team will present papers on various aspects
of the topic “Climate change impacts on tropical cyclones papers.” [Conference Announcement]
