Wipo28 November 2013: The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has launched WIPO GREEN, an online database and network to promote the diffusion of green technologies. WIPO GREEN matches technology owners with individuals or companies seeking to commercialize, license or distribute green technologies, particularly in order to support developing countries’ efforts to address climate change.

WIPO GREEN gained around 1,000 uploads during a pilot and testing phase, including those from WIPO GREEN’s partnerships with the Association of University Technology Managers and the East Africa Climate Innovation Network.

The database includes green technologies, inventions and patents from a range of institutions, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), multinational companies, innovators and universities from around the world. The network, meanwhile: hosts a freely accessible online roster of green technology consultants and service providers; acts as a gateway to IP services, such as WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center; and enables members to meet stakeholders, providing new opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
