FAO14 November 2014: The International Organizing Committee of the World Forum on Access to Land and Natural Resources (WFAL) launched a call for a global forum on land tenure and investment agreements.

The second WFAL meeting took place in November 2014, in Rome, Italy, encouraging a discussion on solutions to help improve poor farmers’ access to land, water and natural resources.

The first signatories to WFAL’s appeal for a world forum addressing unequal access to land and the impact of international agreements on smallholders included the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the agriculture ministries of Brazil, Senegal and the Philippines, civil-society organizations and farmers’ groups.

WFAL members argue that large-scale agricultural investments are profitable for their shareholders, while their overall economic efficiency is not guaranteed. The forum aims to identify and implement effective and efficient long-term solutions.[FAO Website] [WFAL’s Appeal]
