Viet Nam Designates its Third Ramsar Site

The Government of Viet Nam designated the Ba Be National Park as its third Ramsar Site.

The Park supports the only significant natural mountain lake in Viet Nam and is the most important wetland in the country's protected area system, as the only site with a natural lake surrounded by a mountainous karst ecosystem.

5 June 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has reported that the Government of Viet Nam has designated the Ba Be National Park as its third Ramsar Site. The designation was timed to coincide with World Environmental Day and the International Year of Forest 2011.

Ba Be National Park supports the only significant natural mountain lake in Viet Nam. It is the most important wetland in the country’s protected area system, because it is the only site with a natural lake surrounded by a mountainous karst ecosystem.
