9 July 2010: The US State Department has announced that US Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern will travel to Latin America, together with Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Arturo Valenzuela, from 10-15 July 2010, to discuss several climate change issues.

Stern and Valenzuela are expected to meet government officials and civil society representatives in Santiago de Chile, Chile, Lima, Peru, and Quito, Ecuador, to discuss: opportunities to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to strengthen economic growth while cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; adaptation programmes supporting the most vulnerable; and how best to build on the progress made at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in November 2009.
