26 February 2009: The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has announced plans to advance its “Roadmap for Recovery” for the tourism sector in the current global economic crisis during upcoming meetings.

The upcoming ITB 2009, the leading travel tradeshow that is scheduled to take place from 11-15 March 2009, in Berlin, Germany, will include the second meeting of the UNWTO’s Tourism Resilience Committee (TRC) on 13 March 2009. The TRC will examine the impacts on tourism of the economic situation. The UNWTO has indicated it will highlight that the need for measures around resilience, stimulus and the move towards a green economy must be undertaken coherently with long-term commitments to addressing climate change and development.
