UNPFII Announces 2011 Trust Fund Grantees

The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) has announced the 10 selected proposals from indigenous organizations, or organizations working for indigenous peoples, that will receive grants under the 2011 Small Grants Programme of the Trust Fund on Indigenous Issues.

July 2011: The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) has announced the indigenous organizations or organizations working for indigenous peoples selected for grants under the 2011 Small Grants Programme of the Trust Fund on Indigenous Issues relating to the Second International Decade of the World’s Indigenous People. A total of 10 proposals were selected from Belize, Canada, Congo, Malaysia, Russia, Samoa, Tanzania, Venezuela and Viet Nam.

Since 2006, the UNPFII Trust Fund has provided grants to a total of 102 projects. The Trust Fund was established in 2004 to promote, support and implement the objectives of the Second International Decade (2005-2015). Under this scheme, priority thematic areas include: culture, education, health, human rights, the environment, and social and economic development. Proposed activities also must be linked to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
