The UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) convened the Third International Conference on the Use of Space Technology for Water Management with the aim to: enhance the capabilities of countries in the use of space-related technologies for managing water resources; strengthen international and regional cooperation; increase awareness of space technology applications for addressing water-related issues; and promote educational and public awareness initiatives in the area of water resources management.
4 April 2014: The UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) convened the Third International Conference on the Use of Space Technology for Water Management with the aim to: enhance the capabilities of countries in the use of space-related technologies for identifying and managing water resources; strengthen international and regional cooperation; increase awareness of space technology applications for addressing water-related issues; and promote educational and public awareness initiatives in the area of water resources management.
The conference took place from 1-4 April 2014, in Rabat, Morocco, in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA), Inter-Islamic Network on Space Sciences and Technology (ISNET) and the Secretariat of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). The conference included sessions on: international initiatives to integrate space technologies in water resources management; space application for water productivity and economy; space applications for water security and risk management; geospatial information for ground water resources management; and capacity building and cooperation initiatives.
