UNITAR Convenes South-East Asian Workshop on GHS

The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Government of Malaysia, University of Kebangsaan Malaysia, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and with financial support from the Government of Switzerland and the European Union, convened a regional workshop on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), from 21-23 May in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Unitar23 May 2013: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Government of Malaysia, University of Kebangsaan Malaysia, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and with financial support from the Government of Switzerland and the European Union, recently convened a regional workshop on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

According to UNITAR, 80 participants from the ten south-east Asian countries, including representatives from local and regional industry organizations, consumers organizations, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and relevant international agencies, participated in the workshop, which took place from 21-23 May in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting served as a forum to share experiences and approaches to GHS implementation, take stock of progress to date, explore areas for collaboration and training, and develop joint and shared approaches to capacity building at the national and regional levels.
