UN/ISDR Stresses the Need for DRR to Reduce Impact of Droughts

Citing an alert issued by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN/ISDR underscored that over 10 million people in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda will be severely affected by drought during 2011.

28 June 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has stressed the need for disaster risk reduction (DRR) approaches to reduce the impacts of drought, highlighting that DRR policies such as water management and flood risk management are necessary to help anticipate and reduce the consequences of such events.

Citing an alert issued by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN/ISDR underscored that over 10 million people in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda will be severely affected by drought during 2011.
