25 August 2010: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) coordinated the launch of the “Safer Chennai Campaign” in Chennai, India, on 19 August 2010, marking the beginning of Chennai’s intensified efforts to reduce urban disaster risks.

Also at the launch, the “Chennai Zone Profile” report was released. The publication is the result of a multilateral effort involving the Corporation of Chennai, the University of Madras and Kyoto University. It addresses the risks in relation to climate-related disasters at the zone-level of the city. The report is intended to assist the city in meeting some of the “Ten Essentials” that will make Chennai more resilient. [UN/ISDR Press Release]
