May 2009: The 2009 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction will be launched in Manama, Bahrain, on 17 May 2009, at an event organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR). The report will present a global risk analysis on emerging disaster and climatic risk patterns and trends, in particular those related to poverty and human development concerns.

The report will provide evidence to demonstrate how, where and why disaster risk is increasing globally and present key findings from a global analysis of disaster risk patterns and trends, including where high mortality and economic loss is concentrated.
The report is a collaborative biennial effort undertaken by UN agencies and partners, member States, the World Bank, regional intergovernmental and technical institutions, civil society networks, academic institutions and other UN/ISDR system partners to guide policy formulation in disaster risk reduction.
