UNIDO Releases Film on GEF-Funded PCB Management Projects

The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) released a film, 'UNIDO's POPs Programme - Tracking down pollutants globally for cleaner industries,' highlighting the achievements of projects to eliminate polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

GEF UNIDO21 March 2014: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has released a film, titled ‘UNIDO’s POPs Programme – Tracking down pollutants globally for cleaner industries,’ which highlights the achievements of projects to eliminate polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

The projects were conducted in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Mongolia and the Philippines, and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). According to UNIDO, the projects have deployed and used non-combustion technology, which it says represents a viable and resource-efficient option in combating toxic pollutants. The projects: focused on enhancing the capacities of government staff, produced detailed PCB inventories, and provided PCB field test kits to allow quick identification of PCBs.
