25 August 2011: The seventh issue of the magazine of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), titled “Making It,” features articles on globalization, governance and industrial development.

In an article titled “Fairer, Greened and More Sustainable,” Hedda Oehlberger-Femundsenden, Associate Expert on UN System-Wide Coherence at UNIDO, argues that UNIDO’s Green Industry Initiative can build on the success of globalization, while helping to rectify its shortcomings.

In the article titled “Unfair Share,” Thomas Pogge, Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs at Yale University, argues that the world poverty problem is not a specialist concern at the margins of politics but rather an important consideration in all decisions related to institutional design. In an article on nuclear power, Chris Goodall, British businessman and green activist, and José Etcheverry, Assistant Professor at York University, highlight that the greatest obstacle to solving climate change with renewable energy, conservation and efficiency is the limited experience that most people have with these options.

In an interview, Mark Malloch Brown, former UN Deputy Secretary-General, suggests that it is a global responsibility to address poverty. Prigi Arisandi, environmental activist who was awarded the 2011 Goldman Environmental Prize, shares his experience with creating a local movement that helped stop industrial pollution from flowing into a river that provides drinking water in a village in Indonesia.
