UNIDO5 October 2012: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the European Academy of Bolzano (EURAC) have entered into an agreement to cooperate in the promotion of sustainable energy and sustainable development in Europe’s mountain regions.

Under the agreement, signed by UNIDO Director-General Kandeh Yumkella and EURAC President Werner Stuflesser, both organizations will contribute to energy efficiency and renewable energy in these regions, and also support the development of sustainable energy policies and regional partnerships. It will focus in particular on the Carpathians, a range of mountains forming an arc across Central and Eastern Europe.

EURAC is a private center for research and further education, with expertise in sustainable development and sustainable energy solutions. UNIDO actively promotes cooperation with the private sector, recognizing that the private sector can contribute significantly to its own strategic objectives. [UNIDO Press Release]
