28 November 2009: The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the city of Copenhagen, Denmark, are hosting a Children’s Climate Forum from 28 November-4 December 2009.
The forum is bringing together 160 children, between 14 and 17 years of age, from 44 developing and developed countries. It aims to provide the opportunity for the children to voice their opinion in the global climate change debate and to take part in adaptation efforts to address climate risks. The forum is expected to issue a children’s declaration that will be presented to the President of the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC.
UNICEF, as the leading UN agency for children’s rights, is committed to engage children in the global climate debate as per article 12 in the Child Rights’ Convention, which calls for the right of every child to express itself and to be heard on issues of relevance to the child.
