story highlights

Having met with the Executive Coordinators of the UNCSD, Al-Nasser was informed that many countries may not be able to participate in and attend the Conference because of budgetary constraints.

7 October 2011: The President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, has circulated a letter to UN member States urging “all countries that are in a position to provide financial support, to do so,” in order to enable all countries to be present at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

Having met with the Executive Coordinators of the UNCSD, Al-Nasser was informed that many countries may not be able to participate in and attend the Conference because of budgetary constraints. A trust fund has been established to receive contributions for developing country representatives’ participation and the participation of Major Group representatives from developing countries, in both the regional and international preparatory processes and in the Conference itself.
