The eighth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF8) entered the last week of deliberations this week, at UN Headquarters in New York, US.

The main topics being discussed at UNFF8 are: forests in a changing environment, including forests and climate change, reversing the loss of forest cover and degradation, and forests and biodiversity conservation; and means of implementation. Delegates are expected to adopt one of the three proposed options for financing sustainable forest management: a dedicated fund; a facilitative mechanism; or a combination of the two. Delegates are also expected to adopt recommendations to address the key challenges facing forests in a changing environment. During the first week of the meeting, delegates participated in a Multi-stakeholder Dialogue, with a panel discussion on forests, women and fuelwood, and heard a panel discussion on the financial crisis and sustainable forest management.
