Delegates to the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) gathered in Rome, Italy, from 12-13 March 2009, for informal consultations on finance.
Boen Purnama (Indonesia), Chair of the Bureau of UNFF8, stressed that the meeting would provide an opportunity to further discuss and expand on Member States’ understanding on options for forest financing and the role and actions of the UNFF in this regard, and said it was hoped that the consultations would facilitate and advance consensus at UNFF8. Participants focused on identifying key elements in relation to the three proposed financing options: dedicated fund; facilitative mechanism; or a combination of these two.
