28 September 2011: Jan McAlpine, Director of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) Secretariat, has been awarded the Fernow Award by the German Forest Society for her achievements in international forestry over the last three years, in particular her activities in celebration of the International Year of Forests 2011.

McAlpine has been UNFF Director since 2008, prior to which she served with the US Department of State as a senior negotiator and adviser for forests. [DESA Media Release]
