24 October 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has launched a new simplified logo as well as a re-designed website that is oriented to negotiations, the sessions of the intergovernmental process and documents.

In an information note (IS/INF/OCT/11), the UNFCCC Secretariat explains that the new logo will gradually replace the current logo prior to the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) and the seventh session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (COP/MOP 7) in Durban, South Africa from 28 November- 9 December 2011. The redesign was required because the previous logo used a specialized type face and multiple, gradated colors that made it difficult and costly to correctly reproduce. The complexity of the design did not display reliably so as to be recognizable, particularly online.

The re-designed website features all conference-related information and documentation in one place, including a chronological feature. With regards to official documents, a new taxonomy was introduced to increase their searchability. The search feature has also been enhanced to enable users to look more easily for content in multiple ways. The most accessed documentation on the website, namely the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol, the Bali Action Plan and the Cancun Agreements have their own dedicated section on the homepage.

The Spanish version of the website has been revised and updated to provide a better entry-point for Spanish-speaking users. [Notification on the New Website Design] [Notification on the New Logo] [UNFCCC website]
