UNFCCC Reports on Second Workshop on a Framework for Various Approaches

Participants at the August workshop on a framework for various approaches (FVA) engaged in two panel discussions on: fundamental principles and relations; and tools to operationalize the framework.

Each panel discussion consisted of reflections by representatives of parties and admitted observer organizations, followed by a discussion.

UNFCCC18 October 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the summary of the second workshop on a framework for various approaches (FVA), which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 31 August 2012 (FCCC/AWGLCA/2012/INF.9).

The report will be considered by the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA) in recommending a decision to the 18th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC at the end of 2012, in Doha, Qatar, on opportunities for using markets to enhance and promote mitigation actions.

The report indicates that the workshop opened with remarks by the workshop chair, Alexa Kleysteuber (Chile), followed by a presentation by a representative of the UNFCCC Secretariat on the technical paper (FCCC/TP/2012/4). Participants then engaged in two panel discussions on: fundamental principles and relations; and tools to operationalize the framework.
