UNFCCC23 April 2014: The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat has published a technical paper on land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) (FCCC/TP/2014/2).

The paper explores options for possible additional LULUCF activities and alternative approaches to addressing the risk of non-permanence under the CDM, as well as their implications for the validation, monitoring and verification under the CDM.

The paper is based on the views submitted by parties and admitted observer organizations, and summarizes these views. It highlights the suggestions for additional LULUCF activities and for alternative approaches to address the risk of non-permanence, as well as the requirements such activities and approaches should fulfil, as outlined in the submissions.

The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) may wish to take note of the information contained in the paper when considering possible additional LULUCF activities and alternative approaches to addressing the risk of non-permanence in LULUCF project activities under the CDM.
