UNFCCC Releases Report on Work Programme on Loss and Damage

The report synthesizes the views and information submitted by parties and relevant organizations on various thematic areas to be addressed in the implementation of the work programme on loss and damage.

It will be considered by the 35th session of the SBI, which will take place from 28 November- 3 December 2011, in Durban, South Africa.

9 November 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a report (FCCC/SBI/2011/INF.13), which synthesizes the views and information submitted by parties and relevant organizations on various thematic areas to be addressed in the implementation of the work programme on loss and damage.

The thematic areas addressed are: assessment of the risk of loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change and the current knowledge on the same; a range of approaches to address loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change, including impacts related to extreme weather events and slow onset events, taking into consideration experience at all levels; and the role of the Convention in enhancing the implementation of approaches to address loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change. The report concludes with a brief summary of the main common elements identified in the submissions.
