UNFCCC Releases Report of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer

The report of the work of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer covers the outcomes of the intersessional activities conducted by the Group between the 32nd and 33rd sessions of the subsidiary bodies, including its sixth regular meeting, held from 19-20 November 2010, in Bonn, Germany.

24 November 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report of the work of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT) in the period from June to November 2010, conducted in accordance with its updated two-year rolling programme of work for 2010-2011 (FCCC/SB/2010/INF.4).

The report covers the outcomes of the intersessional activities conducted by the EGTT between the 32nd and 33rd sessions of the subsidiary bodies, including its sixth regular meeting held from 19-20 November 2010, in Bonn, Germany. It covers the EGTT’s work on, inter alia: collaborative research and development; the regional training programme on preparing technology projects for financing; and internal working papers on operational modalities for the implementation of the proposed technology mechanism and on intellectual property rights. The report also contains recommendations made by the EGTT regarding some pending activities of its updated rolling programme of work for immediate follow-up to ensure continuity of the work, resources permitting, including: a workshop on good practices in conducting technology needs assessments, to be held in early 2011; a report to promote success stories in relation to financing technology transfer projects in non-Annex I Parties involving the private sector; a pilot online training course on preparing technology transfer projects for financing; and a workshop on operational modalities of the proposed technology mechanism.

The document and the recommendations it contains will be considered by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at their 33rd sessions taking place in Cancun, Mexico, from 30 November-4 December 2010, with a view to determining further follow-up actions, as appropriate.
