16 November 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a report (FCCC/SBSTA/2011/INF.8) compiling information on ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation. With a synthesis of the state of knowledge on the topic, the report provides an overview of how ecosystems can play a role in helping people adapt to climate change.

The report, which was prepared in the context of the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, highlights examples and relevant knowledge products, and discusses issues related to the understanding and implementation of ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation. The report covers all types of ecosystems and geographic regions.

The report will be considered by the 35th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), which will take place from 28 November-3 December 2011, in Durban, South Africa. [Publication: Compilation on Ecosystem-based Approaches to Adaptation]
