UNFCCC1 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the progress report of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) (FCCC/SBI/2012/28), which summarizes the outcome of discussions held at the 7th meeting of the CGE, held in Accra, Ghana, from 17-19 September 2012.

The report features sections on, inter alia: proceedings of the 7th CGE’s meeting; implementation of the work programme since March 2012; and implementation of the CGE’s work programme for 2010-2012. The report provides an overview of cooperation with other relevant bodies, lessons learned, challenges and recommendations. An Annex contains a detailed summary of outputs and products achieved in implementing each of its mandates.

Among recommendations for further enhancing the provision of technical assistance to non-Annex I parties for preparation of their national communications and in addressing the new reporting requirements, it outlines, among other things: making training materials publicly available in advance; including more case studies in the training materials; addressing the issue of using models in the absence of sufficient national data; and further promoting exchange of experiences and networking, including at the regional level.
