story highlights

The UNFCCC Secretariat has published: an addendum to the provisional agenda of the 34th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technical Advice (SBSTA), which follows a request from Bolivia to include an item on the rights of nature and the integrity of ecosystems; and a workshop report on the research dialogue.

5 June 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published several documents to be considered by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technical Advice (SBSTA) at its 34th session, including an addendum (FCCC/SBSTA/2011/1/Add.2) to the supplementary provisional agenda and a SBSTA workshop report (FCCC/SBSTA/2011/INF.6) on the research dialogue.

The addendum to the supplementary provisional agenda for the 34th session follows a request from Bolivia to include an item under other matters on the rights of nature and the integrity of ecosystems. The SBSTA will be invited to initiate discussion on this issue and to determine appropriate arrangements for its consideration.

The SBSTA workshop on the research dialogue was held from 2-3 June 2011, in Bonn, Germany. The report summarizes the information provided by the representatives of international and regional research programmes and organizations, UN agencies, scientific experts and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on recent developments in climate change research activities, as well as parties’ views on research needs and priorities to support the work of the Convention. The report also provides a summary of the main elements arising from the workshop for possible further consideration by the SBSTA.
