5 November 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the annual compilation and accounting report (FCCC/KP/CMP/2010/5) for Annex B Parties under the Kyoto Protocol for 2010.

These parties included in Annex I of to the Convention are also parties to the Kyoto Protocol with commitments inscribed in Annex B to the Kyoto Protocol (Annex B Parties). This document provides final values for some of the key initial accounting parameters for these 37 Annex B parties. It also contains an overview of provisional information as reported by parties in 2010 on: total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the sources listed in Annex A to the Kyoto Protocol reported for 2008; GHG emissions and removals from land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) activities under Article 3, paragraph 3, of the Kyoto Protocol, and elected activities under Article 3, paragraph 4, for 2008; and transactions and holdings of Kyoto Protocol units as at 31 December 2009.

The UNFCCC Secretariat has also published detailed information (FCCC/KP/CMP/2010/5/Add.1) on the initial accounting parameters under the Kyoto Protocol that are recorded for parties included in Annex I to the Convention that are also parties to the Kyoto Protocol with commitments inscribed in Annex B to the Kyoto Protocol in the compilation and accounting database. The document also contains provisional information on anthropogenic GHG emissions in 2008 from sources listed in Annex A to the Kyoto Protocol reported by Annex B Parties in 2010, and on transactions and holdings of Kyoto Protocol units for the first year (2008) and second year (2009) of the commitment period wherein the data for 2008 have been reviewed by the expert review team and the data for 2009 are provisional.

The two documents will be considered by the sixth Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP) to be held in Cancun, Mexico, from 29 November-10 December 2010. [Annual Accounting and Compilation Report] [Accounting Parameters]
