6 June 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has launched the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) African Radio Contest 2012 on the theme “Changing Lives,” with the aim of raising awareness of the CDM’s benefits in Africa.

Under the contest, broadcasters and freelancers from Africa are invited to create a radio story that answers the question “how can my community/city/country benefit from the CDM?” and that is able to generate and hold interest. Stories can fall into two categories, as follows: those that relate to a specific, registered CDM project; and those that explore the potential benefits of the CDM for a community/city/country, but do not relate to a specific registered project.

Entries will be judged on originality, technical excellence, clarity of message, thoroughness of investigation, level of professionalism and presentation skills. Selected winners will have the opportunity to visit CDM project sites in Africa in order to learn more about the CDM and produce new radio stories and documentaries. The deadline for submissions is 6 August 2012. [CDM Press Release]
