UNFCC Publishes Information on Minimizing Adverse Impacts

The compilation document contains submissions from Annex I parties on minimizing adverse social, environmental and economic impacts on developing country parties.

27 September 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a compilation of information on the minimization of adverse impacts in accordance with article 3, paragraph 14 of the Kyoto Protocol (FCCC/WEB/ART314/2010), which mostly covers information on the minimization of adverse impacts in accordance with this article submitted in the National Inventory Reports (NIR) in the 2010 submission.

The compilation document also covers information submitted before 2010, on a voluntary basis, and included in NIRs of previous submissions. Under Article 3, paragraph 14, of the Kyoto Protocol, each party included in Annex I to the Convention undertakes to strive to implement the commitments mentioned in Article 3, paragraph 1, in such a way as to minimize adverse social, environmental and economic impacts on developing country parties, particularly those identified in Article 4, paragraphs 8 and 9, of the Convention. In the 2010 submission, 37 Annex I parties submitted information on minimization of adverse impacts in accordance with Article 3, paragraph 14 of the Kyoto Protocol.
