February 2009: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will organize a high-level roundtable event on World Water Day 2009, which is celebrated on 22 March, with the support of the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the UN-Water Secretariat.

The topic of the roundtable is “Adapting to Climate Variability in Transboundary Basins,” and it aims to raise awareness and the political focus required for increased cooperation on shared water resources. Ministers, policy makers and other high level figures will address issues of adaptation and management of global challenges and changes in a transboundary water context. [World Water Day website]
