UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development - Moving into the Second Half of the UN Decade
February 2009: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, in cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO, are organizing the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development – Moving into the Second Half of the UN Decade, which is scheduled to be held in Bonn, Germany, from 31 March-2 April 2009.

The event is based on the recognition that education for sustainable development (ESD) can play a key role in addressing key sustainable development challenges, and that without reorienting education, it will not be possible to tackle challenges such as climate change and the water crisis. Some of the workshops foreseen for the conference include: learning about climate change through ESD; advancing sustainable lifestyles and responsible consumption through ESD; and ESD and risk management: building resilient societies.
