9 October 2008: The Government of Canada, the UN
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Pacific
Islands News Association are supporting an initiative of the Secretariat of the
Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), to train 14 journalists from
throughout the Pacific region on environmental issues, including climate
change.

The workshop will convene from 14-17 October 2008, in Apia, Samoa,
parallel to the Pacific Climate Change Roundtable. Visesio Pongi, Director of
UNESCO’s Office for the Pacific States, explained that the Organization’s
objectives for the workshop are to “provide high-level training on climate
change to Pacific journalists to increase the frequency, quality, and
prominence of reporting on climate change.” [SPREP Press Release]
