UNESCO Publishes New Issue of Sediment Journal
story highlights

The latest volume of the International Journal of Sediment Research, affiliated with UNESCO's International Sediment Initiative (ISI), includes articles on river channel formation and maintenance, sedimentation of reservoirs and sedimentation processes.

UNESCOSeptember 2012: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) International Sediment Initiative (ISI) has highlighted the latest release of the International Journal of Sediment Research (IJSR). The Journal issue highlights cases from the Yellow River in China, the Western US, the Hilkot watershed in Pakistan, and Northeast Algeria.

The Journal presents technical papers on a number of issues related to sediment, including on: maintaining channel size; mitigating river-health declines due to dams; equivalency of bed structures; formation of meandering channels; effects of vegetation on channel bed scour; low-flow channel evolution; and estimating sediment deposition volume in reservoirs.

The publication also includes technical notes discussing laboratory results on burst-sweep cycles, land use impacts on rainfall-runoff-soil loss relations, using cable and collar technology to prevent scouring around bridge piers and characterizing acid mine drainage pollution of sediment.
